The Division of Consciousness
The Secret Afterlife of the Human Psyche
Peter Novak
Hampton Roads Publishing Company

Drawing on mythology, psychology, religion and science, as well as past-life regression and near-death experiences, Peter Novak explores the nuances of what really happens to the soul after death. Eastern and Western philosophies have disagreed on this point for centuries. After ten years of intensive investigation, his conclusions are a ground-breaking blend of east and west, explaining how this division may have arisen and how it is likely to be resolved.

MEGASOARUS: About the Book

This delightful book is presented as a children’s story that carries a message for adults too. Written and illustrated by Sufira-Mingara, with guidance from Uncle Bob Randall, it is targeted not only to Aboriginal communities, but to the world at large. The story relates the quest of a Wedgetail Eagle called Megasoarus, who asks – as we humans do – “Who am I? What is my purpose and destiny?” The inherent message is contained within the Kanyini Principles, which teach us about unconditional love, harmony and respect.

 "Pharaoh of the Sun:
Akhenaten and the Culture of Love" is a three-part love story. First, there is the passionate love between Akhenaten and Nefertiti and its testing as Akhenaten is forced to marry the seductive Princess Tadukhepa. Then there is the love between Akhenaten and the Aten, who speaks to his heart as he gazes upon the sun disk. His fiery devotion to his one true God puts him at odds against the powerful priesthood of Amen-Ra and the treacherous high priest, Meryptah. Finally, there is Akhenaten's love for his people and all peoples as he establishes a mystery school to teach the children of the leaders of Egypt and other nations. He is aided in this mission by his beloved Nefertiti, Meryra high priest of Aten, and his vizier Nakhtpaaten, also known as Joseph, son of Jacob.
This book is the first in a series of four on the Sons of the Sun. It follows the origins and history of The Teaching from Akhenaten to the present day.

The work of Peter Kingsley has a lot to do with forgotten history and the beginnings of what we know as Western Civilization. His books have made a great impression on me and I am featuring one of them here. There are several more available on his website, including the highly acclaimed 'Reality' and the more recent 'A Story Waiting to Pierce You.'

In The Places of Dark Wisdom
A set of ancient inscriptions on marble found forty years ago in southern Italy, recording details so bewildering that scholars have kept silent about them ...

Strange evidence about a tradition of people who were mystics but who were so intensely practical that, two and a half thousand years ago, they shaped our existence and the world we live in. And yet they did this with a purpose we've completely forgotten ...
These are just two ingredients of this extraordinary book, which uncovers an astonishing reality that lies unsuspected right at the origins of the western world. Our dramatic failure to acknowledge or come to grips with that reality is what has been responsible for so much of the emptinessof the sense of something missingin our modern lives...
In the Dark Places of Wisdom
is no work of fiction. The documents, the discoveries, the people that it describes are all as real as we are. But the story it has to tell is far stranger than any fiction, because this is the story of ourselves.ᅠ

Author Maurice Cotterell presents solutions to ancient mysteries, including what he has termed the 'Solar Sciences,' a theme close to my heart.
I have a few of his books on my shelf, including 'The Tutankhamun Prophecies,' 'The Lost Tomb of Viracocha,' and the one featured below.

Jesus, King Arthur, and the Journey of the Grail: The Secrets of the Sun Kings
The author explains the true story of the Grail: how it contains the secret super-science of the sun and the higher orders of spirituality; how it was carried to England by Joseph of Arimathea; how in A.D. 453 it was found by King Arthur, who engraved it with the same esoteric information found on the Pyramid of Inscriptions in Palenque, Mexico, and the Gateway of the Sun at Tiahuanaco in ancient Peru. His discoveries reveal that the Grail does actually radiate light, in accordance with the Arthurian legends, proving that the so-called legends are actually based on fact. The author goes on to show how the holy cup was passed for safekeeping to the monks of Lindisfarne, who copied the secrets of the Grail into the Lindisfarne Gospels and the Book of Kells. Fleeing from Viking raids, the monks carried their treasures to Ireland, explaining how the cup found its way to the Dublin Museum--where it rests today.
Mantak Chia is a prolific writer and he co-authored the book featured below with Tao Huang. Any serious study of spiritual paths and the more subtle bodies really should include some familiarity the Chinese 'Tao,' and this is an excellent book to start with. It includes an easy-to-read translation of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. [In Chapter 47 you will see the words sung by George Harrison on the Beatles' 'Inner Light' track].

The Secret Teachings of the Tao Te Ching
Reveals techniques for achieving spiritual immortality through an in-depth exploration of Lao-tzu's Tao Te Ching.
• Includes practices and meditations for living in harmony with the Tao (universal essence) and Te (kind action).
• Reveals the integration of heavenly and human power in the mystic field within us...
For over 2,500 years the words of the Tao Te Ching, the primary scripture of Laoism and Taoism, have been regarded as among the greatest treasures of the world. Lao-tzu, whose name means “the ancient child,” wrote these brief but essential verses that have both confounded and conferred blessings on humankind. Now Taoist masters Mantak Chia and Tao Huang guide readers through the origins of this philosophy, the meaning behind its 5,000 pictographs, and the way of living that generations have followed.
While the text of the Tao Te Ching has been passed down in literary form for generations, the essence of the text can be understood only through heart awakening--a true integration of body and mind.
Paul Brunton's book, A Search in Secret India, (first published in 1934) helped me start out on my own spiritual journey when I was a teenager, and I am continually amazed to hear how many other people say the same thing. I have most of his books on my shelf and have read them over and over. He was one of the first, and the finest, Western explorer and writer about the spiritual traditions of the East.

A Search In Secret India

This is story of the celebrated English writer's spiritual odyssey, his journey  throughout the length and breadth of India to seek out and interview 'holy people.' In this book we meet such fascinating figures as Meher Baba - the Silent Messiah; Sri Shankara - the spiritual Head of South India  at the time; the Master Mahasaya; Sahabji Maharaj; Hazrat Babajan - a woman fakir; Vishudhananda - the Magician; and many others.

The reader will especially relish the account of how Paul Brunton met his own guru, Sri Ramana Maharishi, the Sage of Arunachala. Because of this book, Ramana became well known within India and throughout the West. Brunton lived to witness the popularity of Transcendental Mediation and Yoga in the 1960s and 70s after the Beatles met their own Maharishi. Students on any spiritual path will enjoy sharing the experiences of Paul Brunton.

A century ago Dr H. Spencer Lewis was the 'Imperator' of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, of which I myself have been a member for over two decades. Dr Lewis was a prolific writer and most of his books are available to the general public (I have several of them on my shelf). The concept of reincarnation is gainer wider acceptance today among Western seekers - it is no longer just an 'Eastern belief.' So I'm featuring this book.

Mansions of the Soul
Reincarnation-the Soul's Rebirth on Earth. Here is the classic book that explains all about the soul and its cycles of reincarnation, in the words of one of the most highly respected mystic-philosophers of our century. Dr. H. Spencer Lewis tells you in plain and understandable language:- The Cosmic Conception of the soul, its nature, its origin, and its purpose.
- Where the Mansions of the Soul are, why the soul has these Mansions, and what is accomplished in them.
- How the soul comes into the body and how it leaves at transition.
- What occurs between incarnations and when the soul is free of the body.
- Karma and personal evolution, and the effects of these things from the past and present on our future existence...
This book explains in a remarkable way the relationship of the human mind to the Mind of the Universe, and shows how your mind can be the greatest and most valuable asset in your life.

For the past thirty years I have followed and admired the literary output of Jaime Licauco, Filipino journalist and author of 16 books, and had the privilege of a long discussion at a meeting in his office at Makati, Manila, in March 2005. He may not be all that well-known outside of his homeland, but for anyone interested in the unique psychic surgeons, healers and mystics of the northern Philippines, I recommend checking out his books - I have a number of them on my own book shelf.
Some of Jaime Licauco's books can be found at Good reads:
